Arsenal had a scout watching FC Basel’s winger Mohamed Elyounoussi for the club’s Swiss Super League match against Young Boys Bern on Saturday evening, according to Blick.

The Swiss publication report that the Gunners representative would not have been impressed by what he saw of the player. The Norwegian international was substituted on 68 minutes after a poor display in the 2-0 defeat to Young Boys.

Blick however report that Arsenal remain interested in the 22 year old. An offer has not been tabled for the left winger but a bid of between €6m (£5.4m) and €9m (£8m) could be made before the end of the transfer window.

Leicester City have also scouted the Norwegian in the past but it seems that the Gunners are currently the club in pole position to land the midfielder.

Despite his poor display on the opening day of the league season for Basel, Elyounoussi’s performances last campaign were very good with 10 goals and 13 assists in 32 league matches.
