Roma are confident of signing Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez for a deal worth €35m (£31.4m) plus bonuses, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper says the Serie A club’s sporting director Monchi believes the Algerian international can fill the gap left by Mohamed Salah, who left to join Liverpool this summer.

Mahrez has reportedly been holding out for a move to Arsenal, but Arsene Wenger has firmly set his sights on another winger in Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.

The Sun believe that the Gunners are closing in on a deal for the 21 year old despite already having three bids turned down by the Ligue One side. The newspaper says Monaco are beginning to realise that they can’t hold on to the French international, and could accept an offer from Arsenal if another bid is made. It is believed a new offer could arrive in the next few days,  and Arsene Wenger will be hoping for a positive response.
