Newcastle United will try to hijack Deportivo La Coruna’s attempt to re-sign Arsenal striker Lucas Perez, according to the Sun.

The Spaniard’s agent Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle has confirmed the player would like a return to his former club, and that the La Liga side are waiting on Arsenal’s response to their €10million bid for the forward.

The Magpies have struggled to land a high profile striker this summer after losing out to Swansea City for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham. After Perez’s unhappy twelve month spell in England, it’s not clear whether he is willing to remain in the country either.

Arsenal will however be encouraged that a new club has entered the fray to up the stakes. The Gunners have already turned down attempts from clubs in Spain and Turkey to sign Perez on loan as they want to sell the player outright.

The club are keen to recoup as much of the £17m they paid Deportivo for the player last summer, and they may be hoping that Newcastle place a bid higher than the offer currently on the table from the Spanish side.
