Arsenal are seeking to buy Wellington Silva back off Fluminense and resell him to Bordeaux, according to Globo Esporte.

The Brazilian club bought 55% of the player’s economic rights off Arsenal in July but the Gunners have a buyback option in the player’s contract which can be activated for $4m or £3.1m. The buyback will be triggered in the next few days according to Globo after Bordeaux contacted Arsenal about their interest in the winger.

Fluminense have no choice but to give in to Arsenal’s wishes though as they did not pay much in a way of a transfer fee for the 24 year old, in exchange for the buyback option.

The Brazilian’s side’s manager Abel Braga confirmed the agreement in a press conference after Fluminense’s 1-0 defeat to Botafogo on Wednesday. He initially didn’t want to comment on the player but then revealed the existence of the clause and that the club’s hands were tied:

“One more that leaves? Let’s see if anyone comes. We know that the window is always cruel. If you have a clause, there is nothing to do. I learned of the clause because he came for free in 2016, Fluminense can do nothing.. Another great player to leave.”
