Arsenal are interested in making a £45m move for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to the Daily Express.
Journalist Graham Reid says that the Dutch international is back on the club’s radar after being watched by the Gunners prior to his move to Southampton from Celtic two seasons ago.
A £45m proposal is unlikely to land the 26 year old. The Saints have reportedly valued the centre back at £70m in a bid to ward off potential suitors for the defender.
Van Dijk was reportedly keen on a switch to Liverpool earlier on in the transfer window but the Reds withdrew their interest back in June after Southampton accused them of tapping up the player.
No action was taken by the Premier League after it emerged there was insufficient evidence to prove the accusation. It could mean though that Liverpool may return with a formal offer for van Dijk later in the window, but Arsenal maybe hoping the Saints will favour them if they decide to sell the player.
