Arsenal will have to move quickly to head off a challenge from Premier League champions Chelsea if they want to sign CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin, according to the Mirror. He is reportedly rated at £10m by his club.
Speaking to Daily Russia (translated by the Mirror), football agent Sandor Varga confirmed that the Gunners were interested in the 21 year old, and that manager Arsene Wenger had personally phoned him up to ask him to keep an eye on Golovin at the Confederations Cup.
The midfielder already has 15 caps for Russia, and played the full 90 minutes in all three matches as the hosts were knocked out at the group stages of the tournament.
Golovin also has a good deal of experience at club level. He made his debut in a Russian Cup match against Khimik in September 2014, and has gone on to make 70 appearances for CSKA Moscow over the past three years, including eight Champions League matches. He can play as a number 10, or from the wing on either flank.
