Portuguese newspaper A Bola believe Portuguese international midfielder William Carvalho’s future will be decided this week.

They report four British clubs are watching the 25 year old, with Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and Newcastle United all believed to be in the running for the Sporting Lisbon star’s signature.

Question remarks remain however over who will make a bid for the holding midfield player. Sporting are looking to offload Carvalho to finance their summer transfer spending plans but they are holding out for €30m (£26.7m).

In the past, West Bromwich Albion looked the likeliest destination for the the midfielder. Back in January, A Bola reported that the Baggies had a €30m offer rejected by Sporting, but then then returned with a much lower offer of €20m this summer.

Even with the Portuguese club seemingly desperate to sell now, a bid from the Gunners still doesn’t seem at all likely. With a number of holding midfielders already in the squad, manager Arsene Wenger may be prioritising signings in other areas of the pitch this summer.
