Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka is refusing to sign a new four year contract worth €8m a season (£137,000 a week) in order to force a transfer away from the Bundesliga side, according to Sport Bild.

The German publication reports that the German international is interesting three Premier League clubs, with the player heading into the final year of his contract. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a keen admirer of the 22 year old, but Manchester City and Liverpool are also fans of the German.

Speaking to Sport Bild, Schalke’s sporting director Christian Heidel says they will “not give him away” stating a bid of €20m to €30m will not be enough to land Goretzka.

If the attacking midfielder is still at Schalke by the end of August, it could play into the hands of Bayern Munich. The German giants are not believed to be interested in signing the player this summer, but will look to offer him a contract in January, with a sizeable signing on fee, in view to a free transfer next year.
