Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka will be joining Bayern Munich next summer, according to German journalist Raphael Honigstein (via Sport Illustrated). Arsenal have been tracking the German international but it seems they may have missed out to the Bundesliga champions.

In response to a question about the 22 year old on Twitter, Honigstein confirmed that the “deal with Bayern is done.” It must be said that Honigstein made the same comment earlier this month prior to recent remarks by Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel. Heidel revealed last week to Sport Bild that no agreement was in place for the 22 year old to leave the club:

“We do not need to call anyone because of Leon Goretzka. We will definitely not give him away. Goretzka is not for sale – even if a club should offer a transfer [fee] between 20 and 30 million euros.”

Of course this doesn’t preclude the possibility that Bayern have an agreement in place with the player to sign him on a free transfer next summer. Goretzka’s current contract has less than 12 months to run, and he is reportedly refusing to sign a new one which could indicate Bayern have already sown up the deal for the midfielder.
