Sporting Lisbon will refuse to sell midfielder William Carvalho to Arsenal for less than his €35million (£30.75m) asking price, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese publication say they know that the Gunners sent a scout to the Confederations Cup in Russia specifically to watch Carvalho play, and they are anticipating that the London club will be the first team to make a formal offer for the player this summer.

The 25 year old has been linked with a host of top European clubs over the past few seasons. Last campaign, the midfielder played 43 games in all competitions, scoring twice and providing four assists.

Whether the Gunners require another defensive midfielder is open to debate. Grant Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin all play similar positions on the pitch, and although Coquelin has been tipped to move on this summer, whether Arsenal feel it is worth replacing him with a player who will cost a sizeable amount, we will have to wait and see.
