Daily Mail journalist Simon Jones is reporting that Arsenal are confident that they have seen off Manchester United in their bid to sign Feyenoord academy prospect Joshua Zirkzee.

The 16 year old has yet to make a first team appearance for the Eredivisie champions, but he did start a couple of games for the Under 19s last season.

Ajax have reportedly already failed in a bid to land Zirkzee while United were also said to be in the running, but the Gunners seem to believe they are now leading the race to sign the Dutch Under 16 international.

Zirkzee is believed to be considering his options about whether a move to England would be the right move for his career. Former striker Robin van Persie made a similar switch from Feyenoord to Arsenal in 2004, although the Dutchman was much further along in his development after having already played 76 senior games by that point.
