Arsenal have had a €17million (£14.9m) bid rejected by Napoli for midfielder Jorginho, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport (via the Sun).

The Brazilian born Italian international was in and out of the Serie A club’s first team last season but the Gunners have been told that the 25 year old is not for sale at any price.

With the exception of Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal are struggling for players who can play more offensively in central midfield. With Santi Cazorla missing the start of next season, it seems manager Arsene Wenger is looking for alternative solutions.

Jorginho may have been seen as someone who could dictate play, with the Italian’s statistics up there with the best in Europe for the number of passes completed on average each match.

He does however play more as a holding midfielder rather than driving forward with the ball like Jack Wilshere. His 31 appearances last season did not see him score a single goal, while he contributed three assists.
