Arsenal remain “keen” on signing Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to Evening Standard journalist James Olley.
The Gunners are however reportedly behind Premier League champions Chelsea in the race to sign the Dutch international, and it may prove challenging to persuade the 25 year old to make the switch to the Emirates with the club lacking Champions League football next season.
The centre half is also one of Liverpool’s top targets this summer, with Manchester City also linked. Southampton are reportedly seeking over £50m for a player they signed from Celtic for £13m less than two years ago.
Van Dijk missed the second half of the Premier League season after sustaining an ankle injury in the Premier League match against Leicester City back in January, but he should be fit for the start of the next campaign.
The Dutchman made 30 appearances in all competitions for the Saints last season, scoring four goals.
