Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, according to Le Parisien.

The French newspaper reports the Bundesliga champions are seeking to strengthen their midfield after the retirement of Xabi Alonso, and will make a move for the in-demand Ivorian international.

Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, along with a number of other clubs, are looking at the 25 year old, and with manager Arsene Wenger having been photographed with chief executive Ivan Gazidis in Nice over the past week, speculation has mounted about a possible bid from the Gunners.

Seri was one of Nice’s standout performers last season as the French club finished third in Ligue One behind champions Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain. He played 39 times in all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists.

He was only bought for £850,000 from Portuguese club Pacos Ferreira two years ago, but he could now command a fee of €40m with Nice president Jean Pierre Rivere confirming that the player could leave if a club meets the release clause.
