Arsenal are “preparing a €24 million bid” for Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to A Bola.
The Portuguese newspaper report that the Gunners are keen on the German international; a player who has been starring for his country recently at the Confederations Cup.
Asked by Sky Sports about the reported transfer rumours, the 22 year old stated he will only comment on his situation once there is something to announce, which suggests there could be some substance to Arsenal’s reported interest in the player.
Goretzka had a good season for Schalke last campaign, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in 41 matches. He would certainly help the Gunners strengthen an area of the pitch which has been weakened by the long term injury to Santi Cazorla.
With the Spaniard expected to miss the start of next season, and Jack Wilshere also possibly being sold with one year left on his contract, Arsene Wenger could go into next season with very few attacking options in the middle of the park. Whether Goretzka will be the solution, we will have to wait and see.
