Galatasaray are interested in signing Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker in the summer, according to Fotomac (via Turkish-football.com).

The German only signed a one year contract extension back in January, but since returning from a serious knee injury, he has only featured in seven match day squads, with his only appearance coming on the last day of the season against Everton as a substitute.

With Laurent Koscielny suspended for the FA Cup final against Chelsea, Gabriel overextending his knee and a huge doubt for the game, and Shkodran Mustafi suffering from concussion, it is likely the 32 year old will be needed in the starting eleven.

His future beyond the end of the season is far less clear cut however. Galatasaray are seeking a major overhaul of their squad in the summer after a poor domestic season, with manager Igor Tudor said to be a prioritising the centre back as a key summer signing to strengthen his team’s defence.
