Arsenal have tried to outgun Bayern Munich by offering a substantially improved contract offer to Alexis Sanchez, according to BILD.
The German newspaper report that the Gunners have offered a deal worth €20million a year, a staggering £330,000 a week. Bayern are said to be unwilling to offer as much with Chilean publication El Mercurio stating a $14.5million a year deal is on the table, which works out at £215,000 a week.
Whether these figures are accurate or not, it seems clear that Arsenal are pulling out all the stops to keep the Chilean international. It remains unclear however if the Gunners’ absence from the Champions League next season will play a bigger role than finances in deciding the 28 year old’s future.
With Manchester City in the Champions League, and the forward seeking to remain in the Premier League, the Mirror report that City are “confident” of signing the player despite Arsenal’s offer of a new improved deal.
