So apparently, Arsenal will launch a £200million spending spree this summer in an attempt to get the club back to challenging for the Premier League title next season.

This season is possibly the worst under Arsene Wenger as the Gunners are at serious risk at not finishing in the top four since the Frenchman’s arrival back in 1996.

Arsenal fans have voiced their opinion on whether Wenger is still the right man to take the club forward, with the Frenchman yet to announce his decision on his own future.

However, it seems highly likely that Wenger will remain in charge of Arsenal next season following numerous hints over the summer and now reports claiming he is ready to correct the wrongs at the club.

The Mirror says that Arsenal will go all out this summer and splash the cash to get the club back on top. £200million is reportedly the figure they will have to utilize after selling attacking trio Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil. If this indeed proves to be accurate then Arsenal are going about it all the wrong way in my opinion. If they are to compete next season then they must keep their best players at the club, including Sanchez and Ozil, who both will have a year left to run on their existing contracts at the end of the season.

A major overhaul is certainly needed this summer. There are players at the club who are pocketing huge wages and not pulling their weight, or are simply not good enough, these being the likes of Francis Coquelin, Nacho Monreal, Aaron Ramsey, Yaya Sanogo, Mathieu Debuchy Theo Walcott to name but a few.

Yes, a rebuild is required (again), but to get rid of your best players to get it going doesn’t make a lot of sense and, in my opinion, would be taking a step backwards rather than forward. Arsenal have sufficient funds in reserve and the sales of the players mentioned above would give, it seems, Wenger a huge amount of cash to splash this summer.
