Mesut Ozil has admitted that his future at Arsenal does not depend on Arsene Wenger staying the club.

The 28-year-old has previously hinted that he would leave Arsenal should Wenger depart, but the German seems to have had a change of heart.

Wenger’s contract is set to expire at this summer, while Ozil will be entering the final 12 months over his deal at the end of the season.

It’s been recently reported that Ozil turned down Arsenal’s new contract offer worth £280,000-a-week, leaving many to believe the World Cup winner will be on his way this summer.

However, Ozil has given the strongest hint yet that he will be at Arsenal next season, telling German publication Bild (via Metro):

‘I’ve always said that I feel at Arsenal: the club, the fans, the city – it’s all here.

‘Arsène Wenger was also one of the main reasons why I came to Arsenal.

‘But I also know that it can sometimes go fast in football and much different than you plan.

‘So it would be wrong to say that my future depends only on the coach.’

Ozil has come under criticism for his lack of effort this season, but the German is arguably one of Arsenal’s best players when on song.

He has made a total of 32 appearances so far for the Gunners, contributing nine goals and seven assists.
