Michael Ballack believes Mesut Ozil is better off leaving Arsenal and join Bayern Munich if he wants to win major trophies.

The 28-year-old German joined the Gunners from Real Madrid in 2013 and has won two FA Cup winners’ medals so far. With Arsenal’s title hopes all but over and 17 months left to run on his existing contract, doubts over his future at the Emirates have increased.

Former Chelsea midfield general Ballack says Ozil knows he is one of Arsenal’s biggest stars at the club and claims if his fellow countryman is seeking silverware rather than cash then he is better off returning to Germany.

Speaking to Sport Bild:

‘Mesut is an amazing player. He knows that he is one of the undisputed stars at Arsenal.

‘A lot of clubs would love to have him. But if he wants to win a major title, he has a bigger chance to achieve that at Bayern.’

Ozil has come under severe scrutiny from both Arsenal fans and pundits alike for his lack of visible work-rate, despite creating many chances and goals for his teammates since his arrival from Spain. The German has hinted that he is willing to remain at Arsenal, but this will mainly depend on whether Arsene Wenger remains in charge of the club.

Manchester United, Barcelona, Fenerbahce and former club Real Madrid have all been linked with a move for the German international, with Bayern also supposedly keeping tabs on his situation at Arsenal.

It remains to be seen whether he will remain at the club beyond summer 2018, but you get the feeling several sections of the Arsenal fans will not be too upset to lose his services should he decide to depart the Emirates.
