Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk have entered the race to sign Chilean midfielder Marcelo Allende, according to La Roja Deportes.

The 17-year-old has reportedly had three trials already with Arsenal but he is still currently playing in Chile. Shakhtar are well known for bringing promising South American talent to Europe and have had Chelsea’s Willian, Manchester City’s Fernandinho and Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa on their books in the past.

Allende started out playing for Deportes Cobreloa, the same side where Sanchez started his career. In 2015, he captained Chile at the Under 17 World Cup and came to the attention of many European clubs, including the Gunners.

He is now playing in the Chilean Second Division with Deportes Santa Cruz after moving clubs last year. He has made 22 appearances in all competitions so far.

The attacking midfielder signed a two year deal with Santa Cruz, and will be available on a free transfer in 2018 if he doesn’t extend his current deal.
