Barcelona are interested in making a move for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil in the summer transfer window, according to Sport.
The Spanish newspaper report that the Catalan club want to take advantage of the German international’s contract negotiations with the Gunners. They say that Barca have made contact with Ozil’s representatives to register their interest if talks with Arsenal about a new deal collapse.
Sport do however report that although contract talks are very slow, and the wage demands from the player are high, Arsenal sources have told them that everyone at the club still expects a positive resolution to the negotiations.
Ozil has 18 months remaining on his contract, but despite contract talks having been open, there hasn’t been much sign that a breakthrough in talks is near.
His numbers for this season are impressive with nine goals and eight assists in 26 matches in all competitions, and the Gunners no doubt are focusing on the 28 year old’s renewal, as well as his team mate Alexis Sanchez.
