Arsenal are interested in signing Racing Club striker Lautaro Martinez, according to Bolavip.com. The website report that the Gunners have contacted the player’s representatives to discuss a deal.
Martinez has played ten games in the Argentinian Primera Division this season but has yet to score a senior goal. He has however only started three times so far for his club. He was named in the starting eleven for two games in September, against San Martin and Defensa, and returned to start in Racing’s last league match against Union Sante Fe in December.
Since then he has been away playing for Argentina’s Under 20 at the South American Youth Football Championship. In their first group stage match, Martinez scored in the final minute to salvage a 1-1 draw against Peru. He has also featured in Argentina’s four other matches so far in the tournament.
The Championship has currently entered its final group stage with the top four sides qualifying for the 2017 Under 20 World Cup. Martinez’s Argentina lost their first match 3-0 against Uruguay on Monday.
