The 30-year-old has started Arsenal’s last three Premier League games upfront having spent most of the season on the bench beforehand following Alexis Sanchez’s impressive displays as the lone striker.
Giroud’s future was thrown in to doubt, with the player himself expressing his frustration at the lack of starts this season. However, Arsene Wenger has turned to the Frenchman in the past couple of weeks and he has delivered.
And Sutton reckons Wenger would be silly to let the Frenchman leave the club.
‘Arsenal would be foolish to discard Giroud. They’re lucky to have him.’
The France international has just under 18 months left to run on his existing Emirates contract and despite his recent starts, it remains to be seen whether Wenger will offer him a new deal, or indeed if Giroud decides to leave at the end of the season.
