Victor Osimhen snubbed a move to Arsenal in favour of Wolfsburg due to the promise of regular first-team football at the Bundesliga club.

The highly-rated 18-year-old striker was expected to join fellow Nigerian Kelechi Mwakali to the Emirates, but opted for a move to Wolfsburg instead.

Osimhen impressed during the Under-17 World Cup two years ago where he netted 10 goals, and although he is yet to start for Wolfsburg, the teenager remains confident he made the right choice joining the German outfit:

‘There were many clubs that were interested in me. But I chose Wolfsburg because I think that my development opportunities are highest here.

‘If I had gone to Arsenal, for example, I might not have found the way to the first team so quickly.’

Perhaps the young striker is right in saying that his opportunities of first-team football at Arsenal would have been limited, especially knowing that Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck would be in front of you in the pecking order. However, joining the Gunners would have been beneficial for Osimhen’s development. He is only 18 after all.

Nonetheless, I’m sure Arsene Wenger, as well as the fans, won’t be worrying too much about the Nigeria Under-23 international snubbing a move to Arsenal.
