Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi has signed a new deal to stay at the Spanish club until 2020, it has been announced. The 28 year old had been mentioned as a possible Arsenal transfer target in recent weeks.

The former Stoke and Blackburn Rovers player had originally turned down a contact extension at the end of last year, sparking speculation that the midfield enforcer would be leaving La Liga in the January transfer window.

It was reported that the Frenchman had a €30million buyout clause which led to the interest from the Gunners, Manchester City as well as Italian champions Juventus.

N’Zonzi has had an excellent campaign under new manager Jorge Sampaoli,  and he has managed 27 appearances in all competitions so far this season, with three goals and one assist.

His new contract means he will stay at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium until he is 31. It is not known whether a new buyback clause is included in the new contract.
