Arsenal set to miss out on ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’

|

Paris Saint-Germain have announced on their website that Benfica playmaker Goncalo Guedes is close to sealing a move to the Ligue One side. He will undergo medical before signing a contract at the Parc des Princes.

The 20 year old, dubbed as the “new Cristiano Ronaldo” by some in the media, has been mentioned as a potential target of Arsenal and Manchester United over the past few weeks in the Portuguese media.

Arsenal scouts have been seen regularly at Benfica matches to watch Guedes, and speculation about the young Portuguese star’s future at the Estadio da Luz grew further when he was left out of the squad for Benfica’s 4-0 win against Tondela at the weekend.

PSG had also been following Guedes’s progress but the news last night about his imminent switch to France came as somewhat as surprise with reports in both the Record and O Jogo daily newspapers that Guedes’ agent Jorge Mendes and Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira had arrived in London for talks.
