Arsenal have made an initial approach over a potential deal for Dimitri Payet.

The Daily Star (via Metro) claim both Arsenal and Manchester United have contacted the Frenchman’s agent over a possible deal if the layer wishes to remain in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old is believed to have his heart set on a return to Marseille due to family reasons, although he has also received offers from the Chinese Super League.

Marseille initially sold Payet to West Ham for just under £11 million in 2015 and have had two offers already rejected by the Hammers. Both bids were reportedly under £20 million, but West Ham will only consider bids that hit the £30 million mark.

Payet was arguably the standout performer for Slaven Bilic’s side last season and also enjoyed a productive Euro 2016 with France last summer. However, this season the France international has been inconsistent in his performances and, at times, visibly unsettled.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal are indeed interested in Payet or if this is just another player rumoured with a move to the club.
