Arsenal are looking to extend midfielder Santi Cazorla’s contract by a further year, according to the Daily Star.

The 32-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season but until now it hasn’t been clear whether he would be offered a new one.

Cazorla has been sidelined since late October because of an ankle injury. He had an operation in December to help improve his recovery and he was expected to return within two to three months, but extra complications have led to a second procedure.

It is now not known whether the midfielder will play any further part this campaign, but it hasn’t stopped the club considering giving the player a new contract it seems.

Doubts continue over the future of fellow central midfielder Jack Wilshere who has 18 months left on his deal at the Emirates. Italian clubs Roma and AC Milan have again been linked with the 25 year old after failing to land the England international on loan last summer after he opted instead to move to Bournemouth.
