This is why Wenger will not sign a striker in January

|

Olivier Giroud’s agent insists the French striker will NOT be leaving Arsenal in January despite his lack of game time this season.

The France international has lost his place in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up to Alexis Sanchez since his return from Euro 2016.

Giroud has so far managed 11 appearances in all competitions, but only two of these have been as a starter in the Champions League, while he has yet to do so in the Premier League. Despite his lack of game time, the Frenchman has played his part already this season by netting five goals and creating two.

Sanchez has been in sensational form for the Gunners this season and his hat-trick against West Ham last weekend will not do Giroud any favours of getting a look in anytime soon.

Due to his lack of opportunities this season, Giroud has been linked with a move away from the Emirates in January. The 30-year-old is also entering the final 18 months of his current deal at Arsenal and if things continue the way they are, then it’s hard to see him extend his stay beyond his contract’s expiry date.

However, his agent, Michael Manuello, has poured cold water on rumours suggesting his client is seeking a January exit by insisting the striker will remain at the club until the end of the season:

‘Olivier is very well at Arsenal. He will make his season here.

‘Nothing is possible in January. He has no plans to move during the winter transfer window.’

This is good news for Arsene Wenger as the Frenchman will now highly unlikely delve into the winter market to add to his attacking options. Giroud staying means Wenger will have his fellow countryman to call upon, as well as summer signing Lucas Perez and Danny Welbeck (when he returns from injury) should anything happen to the in-form Sanchez during the course of the season.
