Ray Parlour believes Arsenal missed the opportunity to replace Arsene Wenger in Jurgen Klopp.

Wenger celebrated his 20th year in charge of Arsenal in October, but has come under scrutiny once again following two consecutive bad results to Everton and Manchester City last week. His pressure is even more greater at the club to deliver the Premier League title after 12 years without doing so, and fans are becoming restless once again.

Wenger only has six months left to run on his current deal at the Emirates and links of possible replacements for the Frenchman have popped up in recent times. Names such as Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe, RB Leipzig’s Ralph Hasenhuttl and former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini have emerged as potential candidates, but Parlour reckons the Gunners should have gone for Klopp before he joined Liverpool:

‘Jurgen Klopp would have been perfect, ‘til he went to Liverpool.’

Pep Guardiola was another of Parlour’s suggestions, but with the Spaniard now at the helm of Manchester City, the former Gunners reckons Arsenal will find it hard to replace Wenger with a suitable fit:

‘You’ve got [Pep] Guardiola, he’s at Man City now,” Parlour said.

‘And all of the top coaches really [are signed to other clubs]. How are you gonna get a top coach?’

There may not be any top managers available, but this was the case when Wenger first arrived at the club. No one knew him from Adam and some at the time even suggested he would not be able to follow in the footsteps of George Graham, but look what happened. The point being, if Arsenal want a change then they must take a gamble regardless. Replacing Wenger will be extremely difficult because of his previous success and there are a lack of top managers available, but it must happen – if not at the end of the season then at another time.

Never be afraid of change – it is inevitable.
