FC Twente defender Jeroen van der Lely says he would like to play for Arsenal one day.

The 20-year-old became a regular for the Eredivisie side last season and has continued his development this campaign with six starts.

The right back was speaking in an interview with Voetbal international magazine, and was asked about which team he would like to be playing for in ten years’ time. Van der Lely replied:

“If it were up to me, I would be playing at Arsenal. The Premier League attracts me a lot and the one club I must mention is the Arsenal. From childhood the club intrigued me, and as a child I was watching matches when Arsenal were on TV.”

Van der Lely said the players he most admires for the Gunners are centre back Laurent Koscielny and defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin due to their defensive qualities:

“I really enjoy a defensive midfielder like Francis Coquelin or a central defender like Laurent Koscielny. These are namely the men who provide stability and stop everything. So someone I would like to emulate there, yeah. If I can do that, then I am satisfied with my career.”

Whether Van der Lely ever develops to that level, time will tell. The Dutchman has already had an eventful start to life in football after quitting the sport saying he had fallen out of love with the game, but he is now keen to make the most of his professional career.
