Real Madrid will look to make a move for former player Mesut Ozil if they offload James Rodriguez, according to Don Balon.
The Spanish publication say that Real would be interested in the player returning to the Bernabeu if contract discussions between Arsenal and Ozil are not successful.
Ozil’s current contract expires in 2018 but the Sun have reported that Ozil is said to be happy to sign a new deal at the Emirate stadium worth approximately £200,000-a-week.
The stumbling block to the deal going ahead appears to be Alexix Sanchez. Ozil and Sanchez’s agents are said to have teamed up to try and get the best deal for the pair. The Chilean is believed to have been offered £400,000-a-week from China which the Gunners would not be prepared to pay.
Whether Ozil will sign on the dotted line without Sanchez is the main question. If he does, then a return to Spain will be off the table. But if he doesn’t sign up, speculation about the German international’s future will begin to increase.
