Hull City manager Mike Phelan has confirmed the Tigers are looking to sign Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson on loan until the end of the season.

Hull are believed to be among five clubs interested in signing the 24-year-old on a temporary basis with Watford, Swansea City, West ham United and Championship side Aston Villa all reportedly making similar enquiries to the Gunners.

Speaking at his pre-match conference yesterday for the game against Everton, Phelan said that the club have spoken to Arsenal about Jenkinson’s situation but were told they will have to play a waiting game to see which side Jenkinson decides to join in the January transfer window:

“I would love him to come here. I’ve spoken to staff at Arsenal and I’ve been encouraged by it. But I do also realise that there are other clubs interested in Carl. So that’s where we’re at at the moment and nothing definite has gone ahead and there are others.”

Arsene Wenger is believed to be keen on letting Jenkinson leave on loan to help him get game time to fully recover from a knee injury that cut his last loan spell at West Ham short last season. It now seems like the ball is very much in the player’s court about who he wants to join.
