Marseille are preparing to tie down their young midfield playmaker Maxime Lopez to a new contract, according to L’Equipe (via calciomercato.com).

The 19-year-old’s current deal will expire in the summer, which would allow any club to take him on a free transfer.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Crystal Palace and a whole host of other European clubs have been looking at the French Under-20 international.

Lopez has become a firm favourite of manager Rudi Garcia after the former Lille and Roma boss arrived at the club. He has started every single league game since the end of October and has only failed to make the starting eleven once under Garcia.

It is obvious to see why then that Marseille are keen to get the midfielder signed up to a long-term contract.

In ten matches so far this season for the Ligue One side, Lopez has provided two assists but has yet to score for the club.
