The father of Standard Liege goalkeeper Guillaume Hubert has denied that Arsenal have contacted his son about a potential move to the Emirates.

The Gunners have reportedly scouted Hubert on a number of occasions with scouts said to be present at Standard’s 2-2 draw against Racing Genk at the weekend, but speaking to Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure (via Voetbalnieuws.be), Etienne Hubert said that although there had been interest from England in the past, the Gunners have yet to get in touch:

‘The interest from England has always been there. Even when he was still at Valenciennes. With Arsenal there has not been any contact. He still has a contract for two and a half years at Standard. He wants to focus on his performance at Standard.’

Hubert started out at French club Valenciennes before switching back to his homeland with Standard Liege in 2012. After being sent out on loan to Sint-Truiden last year, he began to establish himself as first choice at Standard, and now has two caps for Belgium’s Under-21 side.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of young goalkeepers in the past few months. In addition to Hubert, AZ Alkmaar’s Jasper Schendelaar and FC Crotone’s Italian stopper Aniello Viscovo are both believed to have been scouted by the Gunners’ scouting department.
