Gasperini expects to keep hold of Arsenal target

|

Atalanta manager Gian Pero Gasperini expects the Serie A club to retain the services of Franck Kessie during the January transfer window, despite interest from Arsenal.

The 20-year-old Ivorian midfielder has been one of the standout performers for Atalanta this season, with the club currently exceeding expectations by occupying sixth place in Serie A.

Arsenal, as well as Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, have all reportedly scouted Kessie, with sources suggesting a move is in the offing next month.

However, Gasperini expects to keep hold of Kessie and other members of his squad this January, albeit strong interest from English clubs.

He told Sky Italia (via talkSPORT.com):

‘I don’t think I will lose players. The interest is significant from the other clubs, but I don’t think anyone will leave before June. Maybe we will have a stronger team.’

It remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger will strengthen his midfield this January after bringing in Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, and the Frenchman hasn’t made any plans to acquire a midfielder to replace the injured Santi Cazorla. Still, things can change very quickly in football, so watch this space.
