Aston Villa are keen to sign Carl Jenkinson this January.

The Daily Mirror claims Steve Bruce is working on a loan move for the right-back, who has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger is likely to send Jenkinson out on loan to build his morale and confidence and the Frenchman and Bruce are understood to have a healthy relationship, meaning a deal could be on the cards.

Jenkinson has made just five starts for Arsenal this season, one in the Premier League, two in the EFL Cup and another two in the Champions League.

However, his last performance against Southampton in the EFL Cup was roundly criticised and his substitution was cheered, with Wenger then admitting after the defeat that the England international had been slated on social media.

Wenger has since taken him out of the spot light, but despite his lack of appearances for Arsenal this season, the Frenchman does believe Jenkinson is more than capable of being an alternative to Hector Bellerin when fully fit.

But with a lack of first-team opportunities ahead, especially now that Bellern is back from his injury and Gabriel in front of him in the pecking order, Jenkinson’s best bet at gaining regular game time is away from the Emirates.

Although a move to the Championship wouldn’t be ideal for the right-back, Villa would certainly offer him what he needs and get him out of the spotlight in order to regain his morale and confidence.
