Arsenal scouts reportedly travelled to Portugal to watch Benfica’s 2-1 win over Sporting last night.

According to The Daily Mirror, Arsenal, along with 25 other club scouts, were in attendance at the Estadio da Luz.

It’s unclear who the Gunners representatives were keeping an eye on, but the daily newspaper suggested one name from the list that the north London club have been monitoring in recent weeks – Gelson Martins.

The 21-year-old winger has been continuously linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks and has also drawn attention from Manchester United and Barcelona with his performances for Sporting this season, both in the Primeira Liga and Champions League.

The other names mentioned were Benfica’s Victor Lindelof, Nelson Semedo, Alex Grimaldo, Goncalo Guedes and Sporting Lisbon defensive midfielder William Carvalho – who has previously linked with a move to Arsenal.

Arsenal representatives could have well been viewing one of the other five players mentioned above, but Martins seems the most likely.

The Gunners were joined by scouts from Red Bull Salzburg, Beijing Guoan, Apollon, Manchester United, Everton, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday, Norwich, PSG, Köln, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Belenenses, Braga, Vitoria Guimares, Al-Rayyan, Celtic, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Eibar, Trabzonspor, New York Red Bulls and Houston Dynamo.
