Roma manager Luciano Spalletti wants to sign goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny on a permanent basis, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

The Polish international is spending his second successive season on loan in Italy, and has impressed Spalletti who arrived mid way through the last campaign after replacing Rudi Garcia.

The Corriere Dello Sport are reporting the Gunners are prepared to let Szczesny leave in the summer once his season long loan in Rome ends but they will demand €18 million (£15m) for the 26-year-old.

Roma are believed to be reluctant to pay that sum but they are highly unlikely to get the player for any less. Szczesny is still well liked by Arsene Wenger, and due to his age the Gunners boss feels he may still have a future at the Emirates stadium when current number one keeper Petr Cech (who turns 35 in May) hangs up his boots.
