Former Manchester United defender turned TV pundit Rio Ferdinand reckons Javier Hernandez would guarantee Arsenal 20 goals a season.

The 28-year-old Mexican striker was sold by Manchester United to Bayer Leverkusen for a mere £7.3 million in August 2015 and has since netted 33 goals in 53 appearances for the Bundesliga club.

And Ferdinand, who played alongside Hernandez at United, was shocked at the decision to allow the Mexico international to leave Old Trafford for such a small transfer fee:

‘I can’t believe he was allowed to leave.

‘Even more surprising, he was sold for £7.3 million, that’s an absolute steal.’

The BT pundit then went on to suggest that Hernandez would get at least 20 goals a season if he was playing for the likes of Arsenal or Spurs:

‘If he played for Spurs he’d score 20 a season, or Arsenal.

‘His movement is so infectious to the team, he’s always on the move.’

Hernandez was repeatedly linked with a move to Arsenal over the summer, but it never happened.

Yes, Hernandez would more than likely score 20 goals playing for a team like Arsenal who boast creativity in abundance, but Arsene Wenger opted to sign Lucas Perez instead.

The Gunners currently have several forwards on their books and a potential move for Hernandez, or any other striker for that matter, doesn’t look to be in the offing anytime soon.
