Former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp believes Tottenham can finish above Arsenal this season in the Premier League.

As we all know or are aware of, Tottenham have not finished above Arsenal in the league since the 199/95 season – almost 22 years ago – but did come close last season after they suffered a major collapse in the final stages of the season which saw Arsenal pip them to second-place but a point, with Spurs ending up third.

However, Redknapp, who managed the white side of north London for four years, believes that his former club have the credentials to finish above the Gunners and avoid the much-famed ‘St. Totteringham Day’ for the 22nd season in a row.

The 69-year-old said:

‘Arsenal have had the upper hand for so many years, just about, the last six or seven years Tottenham have got closer and closer.

‘And I think this year could be the year that Tottenham finish above Arsenal.’

Now this may have made a few of you reading this chuckle or even laugh out loud because we have heard the same thing for the past 22 years – Spurs will finish above Arsenal this season – and it never happens. Last year was arguably Spurs’ best chance in a long time to break the duck, but they failed to do so – and I’m not afraid to admit that they were playing some good stuff, while Arsenal were mediocre to say the least.

Can Spurs topple Arsenal this season at Redknapp suggests? If we are to go by history, then no, they won’t. However, never say never. But I don’t believe this will be the year they do it, if ever they do.

Arsenal take on Spurs this Sunday at the Emirates and although it is early in the season, a win is vital for both sides, and of course bragging right are up for grabs as well.
