Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil reportedly has his heart set on a return to his former club Real Madrid, according to Marca.

The newspaper is effectively Real’s mouthpiece in Spain so it is possible that the Spanish giants are trying to engineer a return for the German international.

Ozil left the Santiago Bernabeu to go to Arsenal in 2013 for £42.5million with Real needing funds for the then world record transfer of Gareth Bale. At the time it was reported that Cristiano Ronaldo was unhappy about Ozil’s departure and Marca report that the German still has close friends in the Real Madrid dressing room, including Sergio Ramos.

Ozil is currently in negotiations with the Gunners over new deal to stay at the Emirates. It seems, if Marca are to be believed, that Real will attempt to disrupt those talks, and try to persuade the midfielder to return to Spain, alongside Paris Saint-Germain Angel Di Maria, who they also reportedly want to re-sign.
