According to The Mirror, Arsenal are looking at the possibility of signing Benfica defender Nelson Semedo but face competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United.

Semedo plays for Benfica and has been part of the senior side there since 2015 as well as making one appearance for the Portuguese national team in that time, a EURO 2016 qualifier.

Should he sign for the Gunners he would be competing with Hector Bellerin for the starting spot with the Spanish international not facing much competition for his spot from Mathieu Debuchy at the moment.

United are also interested, though, with Antonio Valencia their current make-shift right back and so the two sides look set to have to fight it out with one another for the player.

Semedo has made eleven appearances for Benfica this season with one assist and one goal to his name from his defensive position whilst Bellerin has yet to score for Arsenal and has an assist to his name this season.
