Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised new boy Lucas Perez after the Spanish striker scored a brace of goals in the 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

The Gunners went to the City Ground in a potential banana skin fixture and fielded a host of young and fringe players.

However, the Premier League outfit were much too good for their opponents and ran out comfortable 4-0 victors after 90 minutes of exciting play.

Perez, who joined the Emirates Stadium side from Deportivo La Coruna over the summer, scored his first goals as an Arsenal player.

The Spaniard led the line in Olivier Giroud’s absence and netted from the penalty spot in the second-half before extending his side’s lead 11 minutes later.

Wenger has called for patience with Perez but was full of kind words for the striker after the Forest rout, calling the speedy forward intelligent.

“Of course, a striker is always growing when he scores goals and I felt that he has shown tonight,” the Frenchman told the club’s official website.

“I liked his second goal because it was not only technique but it was determination, to fight for the ball and finish, I liked as well the part he played in the goal of (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain because it shows that he can combine with other people and that he is an intelligent player.”
