Arsenal look set to miss out on another transfer target, with Everton set to close a deal to sign Swansea City defender Ashley Williams in the next couple of days, Wales Online report.
The Gunners are actively in the transfer market for a new centre-half following an injury to Per Mertesacker, with Arsene Wenger admitting that the North London club want defensive reinforcements.
Arsenal have been linked with a move to bring Wales international Williams to the Emirates Stadium over recent years, with the rumblings resurfacing again this summer.
However, new Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is said to be a big fan of the centre-half and is closing in on a deal to bring Williams to Goodison Park for a £10 million fee.
Recruiting a player of Williams’ experience and ability would surely be a clever move by Arsenal and it remains to be seen whether the North London club can capture a competent defender by the start of the new Premier League season to ease personnel concerns.
