Arsenal are hoping that a big wage offer will be enough to tempt Roma defender Kostas Manolas to the Emirates Stadium, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Greece international centre-half has impressed in the Italian capital and was part of the team that hosted an excellent run of form in the second half of 2015-16.
Manolas has consistently been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal believed to have Manchester United and Chelsea as competition for the enforcer’s signature.
The latest report suggests that Arsene Wenger’s men are willing to part company with around €4 million per year (£3.3 million) in wages alone to convince the Greek that his future lies in North London.
The Gunners are believed to be in the market for a new central defender, with Per Mertesacker’s powers waning and the side’s rearguard looking vulnerable at times last season.
Wenger also has Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel as options at the heart of his defence.
