Is he a worthy contender for the captain’s armband?

KoscielnyArsenal will have to appoint a new club captain following Mikel Arteta’s departure at the end of the season.

The Spaniard bid farewell to the Gunners after five years of services to pursue his coaching career and has left Arsene Wenger pondering who should be given the captain’s armband for next season.

In the absence of Arteta for the majority of last season, Wenger opted to give captain duties to Per Mertesacker.

And although the German centre-back is the obvious choice to take over from Arteta as skipper next season, mainly because he was the stand-in one, there is another candidate up for the job.

According to France Football, as reported by Metro, it is believed Laurent Koscielny has now become a frontrunner for the armband after being with the club for six years now.

Petr Cech is also up for contention and would be a decent nominee for the position in many Arsenal fans’ eyes, as well as the likes of Santi Cazorla, but Koscielny and Mertesacker are more than likely to be the two Wenger is considering for the role.

With that being said, should Koscielny be considered as Arsenal’s next captain?
