Why Arsenal should sign this Brazilian star

Long-term Arsenal target Alexandre Pato has hinted he is interested in a move to England.

The 26-year-old plies his trade with Corinthians but is currently on loan at Sao Paulo.

But the former AC Milan striker does not expect to make his move to Sao Paulo permanent, while Corinthians are not keen to keep hold of the Brazilian next summer.

And Pato believes his future does not lie in Brazil, and has instead hinted of a possible move to England or Spain:

‘Next year I won’t be playing at Sao Paulo, everybody knows that.

‘I hope England or Spain.

‘I do not know if I can stay with Corinthians. I just try to do as well as possible. In football nothing is certain, so it’s no problem to return to Corinthians.’

Pato’s loan at Sao Paulo expires next month, meaning the Brazil international will return to Corinthians. However, Corinthians manager, Mano Menezes, is believed to not want him at the club, which could lead to the striker leaving the Brazilian outfit as early as this January, despite having over a year-and-a-half still left to run on his current contract.

Arsenal have been linked with Pato in the past but nothing materialized.

But with the Gunners short of attacking options due to a number of injuries to key players, would it be wise for Arsene Wenger to look into the possibility of acquiring Pato either on a loan or permanent deal?

Although Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck are scheduled to be back in action during the Christmas period, many Arsenal fans believe the club could do with more firepower to get them over the line this season, and Pato, for some, would be an ideal candidate to come in this January.

The Brazilian is a proven goal-scorer, and although he may not be what he used to be when he was at Milan, Pato could well do a job for the Gunners.

£15 million would be enough to get him at the Emirates – a decent price for a prolific striker.
