ClickWengerJamie Carragher believes an early Champions League exit for Arsenal could work in their favour to lift the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners have lost both of their two opening Champions League games but are impressing in the Premier League.

And having watched Arsene Wenger’s men smash Manchester United 3-0 at the Emirates yesterday, Carragher believes the Gunners could be set to win their first Premier League title in over a decade:

‘Manchester United look short in certain areas, Chelsea look well off the pace. There’s only Man City really who look like the stand out team but even they (have had bad results).

‘Arsenal are never going to win the Champions League with this team, they always get knocked out in the quarter-finals at best, so if they go out earlier it may actually be an advantage for them. It may actually work for them.

‘They will need things to go for them this season if they’re going to win the league. They’re not the best team, that’s Man City.

‘[Going out] may give them a great chance this season. Next season Chelsea will be back, they’ll spend big again, United will spend big again.

‘This might be a season for them [Arsenal].

‘Arsenal need to win a title, that has to be their main aim.’

In their opening eight Premier League games, Arsenal have managed to accumulate 16 points with five wins, one draw and two losses, and currently sit second in the table behind Manchester City – not bad considering the start we’ve had.

Carragher is right. Arsenal are never going to win the Champions League with this current side and it probably would be a blessing in disguise if we get knocked out or end up playing Europa League football – but only if Wenger plays the B/C team.

We are doing very well in the domestic league and this should be our main priority this season – I’m sure this is what the fans want to see their side win this season.

An early exit wouldn’t be ideal in a financial standpoint, but Arsenal have enough in the bank to take the hit, and it wouldn’t certainly be worth if it led to us winning our first Premier League title in over 10 years.
